Position summary
Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Health, the Tobacco Enforcement Officer is responsible for the Tobacco Enforcement Program which focuses on education and liaison with the community, coordination of the work of the program and the public enforcement and monitoring of Smoke Free Ontario Act (SFOA). The Tobacco Enforcement Officer has a key role in service delivery, program planning and coordination of services to the district.
Qualifications
- Two-year post-secondary education and experience in health, education or law enforcement related background;
- Strong analytical, investigative, administrative and communication skills;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to liaise with community groups;
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary setting with demonstrated ability to organize;
- Ability to become designated as a Provincial Offences Officer;
- Possess a working knowledge of SFOA protocols and other applicable regulations;
- Familiarity with various legal forms and procedures required to issues charges/tickets and prosecute cases;
- Ability to conduct investigations, surveillance and compliance checks through a progressive enforcement approach;
- Possess a valid Ontario Driver’s license and access to a vehicle;
- Fluency in both official languages is considered an asset;
- Satisfactory Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Sector Check;
- Ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the position;
- Willingness to work flexible hours and travel to meet program needs.
- Required to comply with Immunization policies, including COVID-19 vaccination unless a valid medical exemption is provided.
